Since 1983, we have provided professional tree trimming, tree removal, stump grinding, and Arborist consultations for residential and commercial properties.

Meet the Owner — Paul Rider, ISA Certified Arborist
As one of North County’s first Certified Arborists, he has had the opportunity to participate in many exciting projects. Paul enjoyed serving as the Certified Arborist commissioned to select, cut, and transport the Capital Christmas Tree for the White House in 1993. He has served as the President of the Professional Tree Care Association and participated in many community educational events, including Arbor Day events for our local schools!
Paul has always been an avid outdoorsman. As a Southern California native, he developed an early appreciation for trees and the landscapes they shape. His first job was working for a local landscaping company, where he learned the fundamentals of horticulture and tree care.
His first tree service company, Rider Landscaping and Tree Service, was established in Orange County in 1977. After selling Rider Tree Service in 1983, Paul and his wife, Crystal, moved to San Diego and established Tree Barber Enterprises. Paul graduated from Cuyamaca College’s horticulture program, earned his ISA Certified Arborist credentials, and became a licensed pesticide specialist.
The Next Generation of Tree Care
Paul and Crystal’s son, Luke Rider, grew up around the tree care industry, often accompanying his father on job estimates and learning firsthand how a professional tree service operates. Many longtime Tree Barber clients remember Luke as a toddler tagging along with Paul on visits to their properties.
Over time, Luke’s interest in horticulture and the environment continued to grow. He later spent 17 years in Africa serving underprivileged communities, where he assisted and trained local residents in horticulture and farming programs.
Today, Luke works alongside his father as an ISA Certified Arborist and continues the tradition of knowledgeable, responsible tree care that Tree Barber has provided for more than 40 years.
